Donalyn asks and why this is so important is beyond me, but here goes:

"Why and upon what documentation do you believe that those Melungeons
you believe to be Melungeon have any type of Hispanic ancestry? Does
this work, folks?"

First and foremost, I never said they did. Although I certainly do not
discount the possibility.

I honor their own assertation that they were Portuguese. Maybe they were
not, but humans have very long folk memories. Time and again these oral
traditions have been proven true.

Also if you read Miro's book and Gallego's book, there is a lot of food for
thought. Consider the old Spanish forts and place names, etc.
