I had the same situation with old photos. I studied
them intensely. I separated them by age of photo with
tin types first and cardboard next, then photos. Most
of the cardboard ones had the photographer's name and
city on them. I knew the Travises were in Louisville
so that was easy. I studied fashion and hairstyles and
tried to date them by years. I worked on them for at
least five years and eventually I began to see family
resemblances among them. I was also able to tell the
same people when they were old and when they were
young. I am pretty sure I got most of them right but
there are some I will never be able to identify. I
also marked them, and made copies. Ann
