To get to Joannes argument*, you have to accept that the so-called
`portugese` have lived for many generations in communities that largely
consist of either admixed indian villages in SC / NC, or, in european
settlements that are primarily scots-irish or english, as is attested by the
last names of nearly all these folks - They have retained none of portugese
culture and would cease to be portugese for all intents and purposes after
the first or second generation, but in spite of this are fiercely attached
to identifying as Portugese?. none of this is conjecture, its fact.

And in the same respect they 'retained none of the African culture and would cease to be African for all intents and purposes...... but in spite of this are fiercely attached to identifying as African?
Which is exactly the point I am trying to make. For all intents and purposes whoever they were to begin with they were Indians. And just as a side note I'm amazed no one has attacked the fact I am denying WHITE ancestry.
