For the enlightment of future "authors" and "bloggers" who disdainfully gaze
down on the day-to-day toil of lowly researchers while sipping their mint
julips, I would like to propose the following:
As this particular Melungeon rootsweb list, as much as the MHA or any other
group, is a recognized authentic entity in Melungeon research. (Or why else
would it be cited so often?)
Then at a set time, I humbly propose, dedicate one thread to the debate: Did
Turks Start the Melungeons? Or something to that effect. Notify and
personally invite Mr. Winkler, Mr. Maggard, Ms. Morris, Ms. Lisa Alther, or any person
or persons on this planet who support or allow the Turkish origin theory.
Invite former ambassadors, noted scholars, dna specialists, and university
professors. The published and the unpublished, the famous and infamous. Advertise
far and wide. Ask list owner Janet Crain, if she is open to the idea, to set a
temporary unbanned morotorium (sic) reprieve for those creatures of purgatory
who are currently banned for malicious acts of discourtesy, and ask that she
monitor the Turkey thread to caution against personal attacks in order to
insure a fair debate. Let the offender remove the offensive post to keep the
thread honest.
Let that thread grow as long as the Great Wall of China, if need be. The
more visible it is, the harder it will be to ignore, to misconstrue by future
authors. Let that thread be the stuff of legend. No side threads, just one
thread, the great thread of Melungia. A legitimate, scholarly, respectable,
debate on the Turkey theory. Let the small and the great take part in that thread
and tell their children with pride, "See my email, honey? Granny was in that
debate. I spoke out, by cracky, and gave em what for!"
Let it be the final armageddon of the Turk issue; high noon, blood and glory,
thunder and lightning, the debate to end all debates. And... in the future,
if any author should ask, "What about the Turkey theory?," then we can simply
say, "see the thread."
Or something along those lines. I'm, you know, open to suggestions.
Joanne Pezzullo, what are your thoughts on the subject? Don Collins? Janet?
Curtis? Anybody? Drake's voyage as a starting point? A scheduled date?
Respectfully
