Subject: [MELUNGEON] Melungeon List Rules
Date: Wed, 25 Nov 2009 01:10:19 -0600

It has been some time since I have had to publish the Melungeon list rules,
but this has been an unusual day. One member has repeated posted personal
attacks even after being reminded not to do so.

That member is now on moderation. It acomplishes nothing to make these
attacks and it reflects badly upon the instigator. We are entering the best
part of the year. As we pause to reflect on our abundant blessings and
celebrate Christmas with all the beautiful traditions these actions are
inappropriate.. We should soon begin a new year after serious comtemplation
of what we need to do and whether we are moving toward our goals.

There will be no big blow up on the Melungeon list. If I have to I'll
temporaily shut the whole list down. And though I would hate to do this, you
will all know whose fault it is.

Please review these rules.

Happy Thanksgiving and the Best to You All

Janet

Welcome to the MELUNGEON mailing list! My name is Janet Crain and I am the
owner of this list. I will be responsible for keeping the list running as
smoothly as possible and will also set some rules and guidelines that
hopefully will benefit us all. PLEASE keep this message. Even though it is
a rather lengthy message, it contains important information that will be
useful to you in the future. Things have a tendency to work better for all
when everyone follows the same set of instructions.

This list is for the research and sharing of information concerning
genealogy and history of the Melungeon people who, along with their probable
cousins were/are found in N Tennessee, SW Virginia, NW North Carolina, SE
Kentucky, and West Virginia.

And may include discussion of other groups thought to be related, including
Guineas, Lumbees, Pamunkeys,
Monacans, Carmel Indians, We-Sorts, Nanticoke-Moors, Cubans, Porgutuese,
Turks of Sumpter county, Brass Ankles, Creoles, Redbones and Ramps, as well
as those of Appalachia known as Black Dutch, Black Scot, Black Irish, Black
Swede, Black German, Mulatto, and Free Persons of Color.

The majority of the posts made to this list will concern Appalachian
research, simply because that is where the Melungeon people were/are known
to live.

Diseases and genetic conditions are not a permissible subject on this list.

We are comitted to maintaining an atmosphere of civility and mutal respect
on the list at all times. You are free to disagree but not to be
disagreeable.

Anyone making posts inconsistent with that principle is subject to being
deleted from the list, with or without warning. Anyone publicly embarrassing
another list member will be unsubscribed.

Anyone privately emailing another party on the List for purposes of
harassment is also subject to being deleted from the list, with or without
warning. Anyone posting a private email elsewhere in all or in part without
the original poster's express permission will be unsubscribed.

The list is moderated by the list owner and a co-moderator who has full
authority to act in place of the list owner.

Keep it friendly, keep it fun, and help keep the peace.

Janet Crain
