Sonia, Thanks for the information pertaining to Sherwood Nance (b. 17 Oct
1754, Charlotte Co., VA d. Apr 1847 Union Co., SC). I will definitely check
further on that line.

In case anyone else is looking for a Thomas Nance in Union Co., SC, I'll
send along the following mentions of the name (to include some that Sonia has
given on Nance Clearing House.)

SCMAR, Vol. XX, Spring 1992, No. 2, p. 98
Union Dist. - An inquest taken at John Powers in the District aforesaid 14
Jan. 1828 before G. Gregory, coroner, upon view of the body of William Powers
then and there lying dead, upon the oaths of William NANCE, Green Tracy,
Samuel Smith, Isom Vaughn, George Smith, James Ennis, John Blare, Jas. Savage,
Jos. Hughes, David Adams, Aquilla Powers, THOMAS NANCE, Good and Lawful men of
Said District, who being charged and sworn, do say that William Powers came to
his death by misfortune by cutting a tree and [it] falling on him.

In 1803......Among the neighbors on Brown's Creek were the Porter, Tracy,
Hammond, Mitchell, Brandon, Bentley, Scales, Sharp, and NANCE families. Some
of these families were probably relatives who had migrated with the Adams
family from Virginia.
