Hi Listers,
I could use some help on my Bennett family thought to be of Native
American heritage.
All I have is her name and who she married and information can't be
found anywhere on this family. His family is white and well known but
all information on him is scarce which leads me to believe she may have
been Indian. The following was sent to me yesterday and I wondered if
any of you might have knowledge on the Wyandot tribe from Ohio, or sites
that could help me.
Nancy Bennett b Jan 17, 1807 Gilmer Co, V/WV married George Stump in
1835 Calhoun Co, (then Lewis Co) V/WV.
Any help you could offer would be appreciated. Thanks, Joyce

"At Ohio University Library today I found this in a book on Indian
lineage. Bennet or Bennett - Wyandot name. Among the Wyandot
households enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census of Wyandot Co, KA was
that of John Bennett, age 28 b. OH. Included in his household was
Hannah Bennett, 40 b. OH; Eliza Lewis, 18, b. KA, John Lewis, 13, b. KA.
and Phoenix Lewis, 24, b. KA.

Another household is James 35, Jane 34 and Cyrina Bennett, 12 all born
OH.

There were Wyandot Indians in Ohio. Maybe George maarried one of them."
