I am searching for an ancestor. There is no documentation as yet, only oral
history. But since i am 72 years old and the youngest of my sibling's,many
of them being well over 90, our mother lived to 104- her mother to age 95
and with a clear memory until the day of her death.Grandmother was our
greatest source of family history since most records were destroyed during
the civil war years in North Carolina. We believe one ancestor was
TABITHA HOYTER---------------------daughter of
THOMAS HOYTER CHIEF/HEADMAN of the CHOWAN
INDIAN'S
I have been told there is a book that does document something about THOMAS
HOYTER.
TABITHA HOYTER born about 1695 in Norfolk
Virginia
married JOHN FREEMAN born about 1693 in Norfolk Virginia
and he died about 30 April 1776 in Chowan Precinct, Albemarle North
Carolina.
I am a direct descendant of this JOHN FREEMAN.
I am WANDA MAUREEN (PORTER ) NELSEN born 28 June 1932
My mother was GRACIE MAE ( FREEMAN ) PORTER born 1893 N.C.-died 1997
Illinois
Her father: WILLIAM JESSE FREEMAN
His father: BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FREEMAN
Any information on the HOYTER family will be most welcome.Thank you.
