16 Solomon Hicks in the U.S. in 1850 in the index. I was looking for one
about 36 years of age give a year or two and born in NC. There were no
Solomon Hicks in the NC index for 1850. At the age of 36 he should be
shown in the index wherever he might be. There were nearly 250 Hicks
families in NC and to look through all of those would be time
prohibitive.

There was one in Conn living in the household of a Rob't Hull who was a
Sawyer?. Solomon was age 35, a mariner, other Hicks in the household was
Emma age 20 and Wm H age 1. These two were born in Georgia. I can't read
the place of birth but it could be North Carolina. The head of the
household (Hull) was born in N.C. The color is shown as B for everyone
in the household. You didn't specify race so couldn't eliminate this
one.

There was a 35 year old farmer in Illinois and I could not read place of
birth looks like New B. (New Bern NC??). Other Hicks in the household
was Elizabeth 23 born in England and Charles 3, born in Ill. and
Clifford age 1 born in Ill.

Looking for my gr.gr.gr.grandfather Solomon HICKS.
He is listed as 66 y.o.a. in the 1880 Census for Ohio, Henry Co.,
with sons William[my gr.gr.grandfather](age 22) & Solomon(age
18). And he was listed as born in North Carolina. Both sons were
listed as being born in Ohio.

The 1900 Census has Solomon living with his son William & his
family -- "North Carlinia" is listed as his birthplace. William also
gives his father's birthplace as "North Carlinia" (mother born in
Ohio); and (the father) Solomon lists his parents' birthplace as
"Vergina".
By 1910 Solomon has apparently passed away. But William
gives his father's birthplace as Virginia (mother born in Ohio).
