Hello Mary,
I went to the library to see what I could find on your
family. I found Lert King with his family in 1860 Halifax, Enfield Post
Office.
He is listed as Lertis and his father is Lansford or Lunsford.

Lansford King 49 M Farmer No Value of Real Estate
Value of Personal Estate
$25
Rebecca King 43 F
E.S. King 17 M
A.W. King 8 M
Lertis King 6 M

In 1850 Halifax County:

Lunsford King 37 M
Rebecca King 30 F
Edward King 8 M
Alexander King 5/12 M

In 1840 Halifax Co. 047 8th District I found a Laertis M. King. I didn`t
check it out any further, but there is a possible connection.
I was unable to find anything in 1870 or 1880. I looked pretty good.
I hope this helps some.
