Mary,

I didn't find any likely suspects indexed as Holloway, I'm sorry to say.

The only Holloways indexed in 1930 Lincoln County were Richard, Mary and Ira
G.

There are 36 William Holloways indexed in 1930 North Carolina, none who
indicate born in Virginia.
The William Holloways who were near in age to having been born in 1881:

William H. Holloway, age 47, Negro, born AL, in Greene
William Holloway, age 49; white, born NC, in Wake
William Holloway, age 45, Negro, born NC, in Wake
William Holloway, age 45, Negro, born NC, in Durham
William Holloawy, age 49, Negro, born NC, in Warren

Those Holloways indexed as "W" Holloway in 1930 North Caolina who were near
the right age:
James W. Holloway, age 47, white, born NC, in Harnett

Checking specifically for William Holloways who were born in Virginia in
1881, there are these:
William H. Holloway, Negro, age 48, born VA, in Monmouth County, NJ
William S. Holloway, white, age 48, born VA, in York County, VA

Sorry I wasn't able to find yours. If you would be so kind as to give me
more information such as race and the names of wife and any known children,
I will be happy to try another search.
