This may be your Herbert Smith, here is what I find.

H. Smith Head, Age 35, Born NC, Father NC, Mother TN,
Kittie Wife, 35, Herself and parents born NC,
Pauline Daughter, 13, Herself and parents born NC,
Belva Daughter, 10, Herself and parents born NC,
James Son, 6, Himself and parents born NC,
Oran Son, 1, Himself and parents born NC,

H. Smith rents his home, he was able to read and write, he was an engineer
at a power plant. Kittie was able to read and write, she was a stay at home
mom. Pauline and Belve were both in school and were able to read and write.
James and Oran stayed home with their mom.
