Hello Jean,

This may be the family you are looking for. You did not say what year you
needed a lookup for, so here is the one for 1860. This is how they are
listed at Ancestry.com. Also it is my understanding that James may have had
slaves to.

James Y. Mangum Male, Age 38, Born NC, Farmer,
Minerva Female, Age 38, Born NC,
Martha Female, Age 16, Born NC, Attends School,
Drsen Male, Age 14, Born NC, Attends School,
Isadore Female, Age 12, Born NC,
Kiver Female, Age 10, Born NC,
Emma Female, Age 8, Born NC,
Hillman Male, Age 6, Born NC,
Amanda Female, Age 5, Born NC,
Alex Male, Age 2, Born NC,
Young Male, Age 2 months, Born NC,
Henry Obrian Male, Age 18, Born NC, Farm Laborer,

James was living next door to a Willie P. Mangum age 55 and Fannie Mangum
age 52. Living with then is Frances age 25, Duncan age 22 and Edney age 20,
all born NC.

The information on this census is as of June 1, 1860.
