I chose the 1880 Census because my great-grandmother was born in the Brushy
Mountain area, N. Wilkesboro, Wilkes County. All I know is her mothers name
is Mary Hamilton and she married Edward McBride. This is what is stated on
her death certificate, and it states that they were born in North Carolina.
My great-grandmothers name is Ida Rose (Anna?) McBride, she married a Thomas
Howell, I can take my decedents forward, but not backward. I have seem to
have hit a stumbling block. I will check the LDS website, Any help you can
give me would be great.

The 1880 census transcription for the entire US is free and online at the
LDS website,

However, I don't find this couple enumerated in 1880 Wilkes, nor in any
other North Carolina county. What else do you know that might help someone
locate them? Approximate age, race, and place of birth for either or both
might be helpful.
