FJ,

I think this is the same family - in Wayne County as GRANTHAM in 1900 and in
Mecklenburg in 1910 as GRIER. Let me know what you think.

In 1900 Wayne County, North Carolina, Goldsboro Township:
100 - Grantham, John, head; born Jan 1858, age 42; married/14 years; NC NC
NC; laborer/COTTON MILL
Mollie, wife; born Jan 1870, age 30; married/14 years; 5
children/5 living; SC SC SC
Jennings, son; born Dec 1886, age 13; born SC
Frank, son; born Oct 1890, age 9; born NC
Willie, son; born Jul 1893, age 6; born VA
Beulah, dau; born May 1897, age 3; born NC
Charley F., son; born Feb 1900, age 3 months; born NC
(not being sure, I didn't transcribe all the details, so you might want to
request a full transcript if you think, as I do, that this is your family)

1910 Mecklenburg County, North Carolina - Charlotte Township, Charlotte
City, Ward 1 - April 21, 1910 - ED 98/Sheet 9B
124 North Caldwell Street
200 - GRIER, J. H., head; age 51; married twice/4 years; NC NC NC; general
labor/public; renting house
Maggie E., wife; age 40; married once/4 years; 0 children/0
living; NC NC NC
Jennings A., son; age 21; born SC; weaver/COTTON MILL
Frank, son; age 18; born NC; weaver/COTTON MILL
William H. H., son; age 16; born NC; doffer/COTTON MILL
Beulah, dau; age 13; born NC
Charles F., son; age 7; born NC
and a married boarder whose name I can't read; NC NC NC; weaver/cotton mill

Jennings Adam Graham, born December 18, 188_, single, born York County,
South Carolina, enlisted for the draft in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and
gave his occupation as "textile"
Charles Frederick Graham, born in North Carolina, enlisted for the draft in
Lee County, North Carolina in 1918. He gave his date of birth as February
5, 1900 and his nearest living relative as "J. Harrison Graham", also
residing in Lee County. This document indicates that John Graham's middle
initial was "H" instead of "C", which (if this is the correct Charles F.
Graham), fits the family of JH Grier in 1900 Wayne County and in 1910
Mecklenburg County.

IF this is the correct John Graham, the only one I have been able to find
who had a middle initial "H" was found in 1880 Moore County, North Carolina,
as the son of HW and DE Graham, ages 49 and 47 respectively. John was
listed as John H. that year, age 20.

In going backward through the census years, it appears that the above HW was
Henry W. Graham, son of Malcom Graham in 1850 Moore County. The above DE
Graham was the former Drusilla Cadwell, also in 1850 Moore County, the
apparent daughter of Green B. and Margaret. North Carolina marriage records
at Ancestry shows that HW Graham married Drucilla Cadwell on April 25, 1859,
in Cumberland County.

In 1860 Harnett County, HW, age 26, and Drucilla, age 22, were shown with
apparent son, JH, age 1, and Drucilla's brothers, Neill and Daniel Cadwell.
They were also in 1870 Harnett County with (apparent) children named John
H., 10, Cornelius H., age 9, Elizabeth M., age 5, Martha J., age 1, and Mary
L., age 1 month. Living also in the household was an apparent sister, Liz
Cadwell, age 17.

This needs a ton more research before you accept any of the above as fact.
It particularly bothers me that John H. in the 1900 census says that he was
born in January of 1858 instead of 1860 (1859 marriage of Henry W. and
Drucilla). It also bothers me that, unless his son William HH is William
Henry, none of his children were named for Henry W. Graham.

I hope this gives you something to work with.
