Sorry that I've not followed this well as I've been busy getting ready for
the Angelina College Genealogy Conference
(July in Lufkin TX - http://www.angelina.edu/genealogy.htm - anyone in TX
LA AR OK might be interpreted to check us out but would need to registered
quickly).

For NC, may I add the following, that you will want to check first, as you
may find what you need online. Following will be two suggestions on finding
help ...

http://www.linkpendium.com/genealogy/USA/NC/Anson/
http://www.kindredtrails.com/NC_Anson.html

for FREE help nationwide & Internationally - except for the actual cost of
copies - check RAOGK (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) We are
volunteers who try to help others ... we do not do your research for you but
we will do look-ups, photograph tombstones, make copies at libraries, go to
the courthouse, etc. This is on a limited basis because we normally have
several waiting for help. Just go to http://www.raogk.org/ and follow the
prompts to North Carolina, then look for a volunteer. Sometimes, if you do
not find the exact service you need listed, ask anyway - perhaps the
volunteer can handle it. You can shortcut right to the list at
http://www.raogk.org/listing.htm but I do suggest you go in at the home page
and read about us and the rules ... and consider joining us!

Most libraries will have a listing of people who work for a fee. You might
want to check the appropriate library for that.

You can also go to APG (Association of Professional Genealogists) at
http://www.apgen.org/ This does not mean Big $$ - we try to keep our fees
within reason. Check to see if there is anyone on this list that may be of
help. Again both nationally and Internationally ..

As for 'being stung' the Client should never hesitate to ask what the fee is
ahead of time. Hourly rate - estimated time - mileage involved - and of
course, we know the cost of copies would be there. You might also consider
giving the time you want/think..."work up to two hours or four hours, etc."

> If someone from the Anson Co. Genealogical Society is on this list, would
it be possible for you to make your address more noticeable---and have a
cost for research and copying fees? There seems to be quite a few who would
use this service!!! I recently got "stung" for research in another state.
I ordered 11 copied pages supposedly at 50 cents per page (50 cents was
quoted on their website for these documents--and nothing more). The website
had the book numbers, etc, that were for these documents. I received the
documents---then an e-mail stating I owed the researcher $45 for services of
research. I do not mind paying the money to someone for research, but it is
nice to know in advance. I have a "genealogy pot" that I work from to get
documents. This helps me to manage my funds for research. I also believe in
supporting the societies. Were would some of us be without them!

genealogist/researcher. He charges $50 and 32 cents a mile. I think he
lives in Wadesboro---if anyone is interested. I think many are willing to
pay that, some are on limited incomes. Just depends on how bad one wants to
find info on their ancestors. Steve sounds like a very knowledgeable
person.
