Subject: [NCASHE-L] HAMPTON family 1789 to 1827
Date: Fri, 27 Nov 1998 21:35:24 EST

Hi I have been told by someone who is supposed to have done some research on
this that my branch of the Hampton family has roots in Ashe and Wilkes county.
I have been trying to find the birth place and family of William P Hampton
born Aug 8 1789. Some records give the state of his birth as North Carolina
and some as Tennessee. I was told that the part of North Carolina he was born
in became Tennessee right around the time he was born. William married a
woman named Malinda (maiden name unknown) and the two of them had seven
children together, John , James, William Irwin, Lemira, Elizabeth, Mary
Adeline, and Matilda. William and his family left Tennessee/North Carolina
sometime around 1825 to 1827 for McLean County Illinois. They stayed there
about ten years before moving on to what is now Dade County Missouri. One
history book of McLean Co lists William as having a connnection to Wade
Hampton, but it doesn't say which Wade Hampton ( I've discovered there were
dozens of them in the 1800's). Is anyone else researching this family or have
any clues about which branch of the Hamptons William belongs too? Will share
all information that I have Thanks for your time Jaime
