Squire Smith had a brother named Thomas Smith, who was my great grandfather
and lived in Avery County. Their father's name was Thomas William Smith
b. 9-15-1837 d. 1-4-1914 and buried at Heaton Cemetary in Avery County.
Their mother was Hannah Rush Smith b. 1-15-1841 d. 8-17-1921. She is also
buried at Heaton Cemetary in Avery County. Her parents were Charles and
Susannah Rush. Thomas and Hannah were married 8-21-1859 in Washington County,
VA. Thomas fought with The Union Army in the Civil War. He was a private
with Co. H 7 Tennessee Mt. I. I have a copy of his enlistment papers if
you are interested. My mother also has a picture of Squire along with a
newspaper article about him that my grandmother had. I hope this information
