Message Board Post:

My ggg grandfather, Henry English, Sr. had a daughter Rachel Abegail English
(1815-) who married Abe McGee (1814-). Their children according to the 1850
census were: William H. McGee (1836-), J. A. McGee (male) 1841, R. H.
McGee (male) 1843, J. W. McGee (male) 1845, and E. M. McGee (female) 1849.
I believe that Abe McGee was the son of Walter McGee and Alice Swofford who
lived about a quarter mile up Rolling Gap Branch from the English home. On
the night of July 16, 1916, the flood waters caused a landslide to hit the
McGee house, leaving children Annie (8) and Bryce (6) dead. Edna, their
daughter, lived until the next morning. Carl, the baby, was found inside
the badly damaged house with a mattress folded over him. He carried a scar
down his face as long as he lived. Naomi, Walter McGee's mother was
injured, but survived.
