*BARTLETT RUSSELL FARMER*, 94, of Newland died Wednesday, March 15, 2006
in the Life Care Center of Banner Elk. Son of the late Gordon Henry and
Zelphia Ellen Osburn Farmer he attended the Chestnut Dale Baptist
Church. He worked as office manager fo the Agriculture Stabilization
Conservation Service where he retired after 40 years he also attended
the Appalachian Teachers School and taught school in Avery County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Edna Johnson Farmer and one
brother, Reece Farmer.
Survivors include: daughters, Evelyn Alexander and husband, Ben of
Raleigh, Pam Johnson and husband, Kermit of Crossnore; sons, Fred Farmer
and wife, Rebecca of Raleigh, Ted Farmer and wife, Betty of Newland;
sisters, Hazel King of Ledger, Margaret Danford Hodges of Blountville,
TN, Irene Vance and husband Howard of Roan Mountain, TN. He is also
survived by grandchildren, Bart Farmer of Newland, Bill Farmer of
Leland, NC, Ben Alexander III of Apex, Joyce Johnston of Greensboro,
Kermit Johnson, Kevin Johnson and Kelly Johnson, all of Crossnore;
great-grandchildren, Holly Alexander and Benjamin Alexander, both of
Apex, James and Hutton Johnston, both of Greensboro, Bryanna and Alexis
Farmer, both of Leland, Sierra and Leah Farmer, both of Newland.
Service for Mr. Farmer will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 18,
2006 in the Crossnore First Baptist Church with Mr. Jim Greene
officiating. Interment will follow in the Hughes Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour at
the church. Mr. Farmer's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
