Devereux burned about ten years ago, but was part of my childhood
experience growing up. We'd ride down the long and many dirt roads of
the Roanoke River near Lewiston-Woodville and always go to Devereux. I
saw my first fox there. I have somewhere in all my files a sketch of
Devereux. There is a book called Plantation Sketches written by Margaret
Devereux - out of publication for many years - but I can get a xeroxed
copy for anyone who wishes. The cost, including postage is $22.00. It
describes plantation t life there when she first came there as young
bride. A very lovely book with moving memoirs of "the way it was."
