Dear NC Group,

In Bertie Court Min 1724-1739 Haun there is an entry that reads:
Catherine FERRILL came into court and made oath taht Edward MOORE had begot
upon her body the Bastard Child she now has in her armes and in Open Court
made oath to the same & Prayed that the sd MOORE might be compelled to give
Security for maintaining the sd child. It is thereupon considered & Ordd,
that the sd MOOR do give suff security in the sum of One hundred pounds for
the payment for 2 years 20/per month. And that his do gvie Sec int he sum of
25 Ster to Indemnify the Churchwardsm & Vestry of Society parish from
maintaing the sd child.

Ordered that Moore pay the sum of five pound for Adultry and sd Catherine
50/ for fornication.

Questions:

1. Does anyone have access to the film that has this entry #35 year abt
1731? We would need to know if the name is really FERRILL or could be HARRELL.

This film is from NCArchives C.010.30001

I tried to search out the name FERRILL didn't see any activity in Bertie.
Edward MOORE was pretty prominent in the county as a businessman. His wife
was Elizabeth. There was no mention of this child later on in the court
records books.

2. Is there a church record for the Society Parish anywhere for those early
years? What church was this? Mr HARROLL was one of the Churchwardens
according to these court minutes.
