It seems the Sherwoods and Barnes families were in this area at least in the
late 1600's.

I'm working a collection of people including one BENJAMIN ODOM who appears
with his wife THAMAR (sometimes "THAMER") ODOM in a Bladen Co., NC deed 3 Dec.
1772: BENJAMIN ODOM & THAMER, his wife to Wm. Thompson, land on Drowning
Creek. Wit: ABRAHAM BARNES, MICHAEL BARNES.

My line of LEEs (John Lee, Esq. of Johnston Co., NC, father of Robert Lee,
father of Godfrey and Lewis Lee) in the persons of ROBERT LEE & BENJAMIN ODOM
in 1776, were in James Cotton's accounts, Anson Co., NC. Lewis Lee (d. by
1782) m. DORCAS, dau/o CAPT. BENMAMIN ODOM, whose est. was settled in 1804 in
Barnwell Co, SC, his wife Thamer, only ch. Dorcas and her heirs: Mrs. Sarah
Durett by her first husband LEWIS LEE, and Polly & Catherine Collins by her m2
Joseph Collins of GA. LEWIS LEE, BENJAMIN ODOM & HENRY PEEPLES were in SC
1775 "Saltcatchers" unit. Henry Peeples believed to have been husband of
SARAH LEE, Lewis Lee's known sister.

CAPT BENJAMIN ODOM was dec'd by 1800, as his wife "THAMAR" ODOM was head of
household 1800 Cen. Barnwell Co., SC.

The ODOMS (also as "Oadham,""Odam," etc.) were in Nancimond Co., VA, Chowan
and Gates Cos., NC, Bertie, Johnston Co. and elsewhere, but showing same "neck
of the woods" early records in far n.e. NC as the BARNES you mention in
Perquimans.

I wonder if you'd have any idea of the previous place of residence of the
BARNES mentioned above in the ODOM record: ABRAHAM BARNES & MICHAEL BARNES.
