Diane
There was a Tribal Affilliation group. It used to be called the
Machapunga-Tuscarora Tribal association run by Carolyn Pierce Skinner and
her daughter Channa. The area is called Piney woods and the Affilliation
was started ligitimately by Ruby Whitehurst who is a member of the Southern
Band Tuscarora, and the Chief was Elijah Keys. There story is that their
ancestors ran the underground railroad from NC to NY.
Then for some reason Carolyn took the Inc. and said she was the Chief. She
could or would not seperate the Tuscarora names from the Machapunga, so the
Tuscarora in her Affiliation left.
I don't know what's with happened with them since 1997.
If you'd like a copy of the book send $35.00 plus $6.00 Tax s&h to the
Southern Band Tuscarora 121 Granville St. Windsor NC 27983. And they will
get one out to you.
If you need anymore help. Let me know and I'll do what I can.

I appreciate your response. I look forward to finding the book you
mentioned.

There is an area in Martin Co., between the towns of Jamesville NC and
Plymouth, called Free Union Town. The residents of the area have a unique
appearance for Martin Co. The elders from the area will tell you they are
of Indian descent, African American and Caucasian. The Indian appearance is
quite obvious. I have looked for information about this community and its
heritage but have found nothing. Do you think the book you mentioned will
help?

Have a nice day and your help is appreciated,
Diane
