Hi Everyone,
Just thought that I should share this info with you in the hopes that it will
save one of you a bit of frustration/money/hassle ect... I have been trying
to get a firm price from the NC Archives regarding the Gilmer Map's for an
out of state order by mail since Virginia posted the information to the list
last week. The other employee's say that for some reason they cannot accept
overpayment and could not "ball park" a price. Apparently, Ms. Kim Cumber is
the only one there with the authority to quote a price on matters such as
these maps. (I am very grateful for the price info that Harry shared via
Virginia's post to our list of "25 cents a page" -- thank you Harry! The
cost to me went from $24.00 + this morning down to the following charge); Ms.
Cumber told me this morning to enclose the usual $8.00 search fee with my
written request for the six part Gilmer map which is the set of maps with the
best clarity, and should she require addition money she will enclose an
invoice with my copies. Ms. Cumber said that the other map by General Gilmer
is in eight parts and does not copy well, but that it does vary from the
detail of the six part map so we can try it if this 1st set doesn't have the
info that I am looking for. The people who work at the NC Archives have
always been very nice and helpful but this go round has already cost me
around $20.00 in phone calls and seven days because of the holiday weekend,
Ms. Cumbers illness, and phone tag episodes. Hope this will be of help to
one of you. Best regards, Marianne in Maryland
