Thanks Carol for the intro to the great book on Albemarle County.

(NC Genesis: 17th Cen Albemarle Co by Lindley S. Butler (published by
Perquimans Co Restoration Association)

This concept of Albemarle and its relationship to Bertie County is so
important, and I want to try to add to and get on-line the "migration
pattern" materials that we have previously mentioned. Although many of our
messages dealt with migration OUT of Bertie County, it is equally
important to think about WHERE Bertie County was prior to 1722 when it
became a Precinct in the division of Chowan Precinct and Chowan had been
out of Albemarle Co. (precinct and county are essentially the same in those
early days)

This book is an excellent one for providing the history and covers:
political life; courts; land and agriculture; trade and occupations;
education and religious life.

There are many examples of specific people, so you might even locate your
ancestor!

But even more importantly, he provides some excellent bibliography for
further research.

One of the important chapters is on the Land Patent (Headright). I have
just posted on-line from Ken Lindsay some of these land grants which
illustrate this....look under Bryant. Earlier Sharon Frail had also shared
some land grants.

If you're like me, you can't keep Warrants, Grants, Headrights all
straight....so this chapter is a big help.
