janine, i can't help with your butler query but am interested in your todd
line.

my ancest0r [ggggf] josiah todd married nancy asbell in bertie co. in 1798.
they immediately moved to SC. josiah's parents are said to be william todd
and h/w jamima [this undocumented]. i believe that josiah was born in bertie
co. but have no proof.

if this ties to your line in any way i can provide more info.
