Bertie County researchers,

I need help with the above surnames. Last week I looked at the NC Archives
on the NC GenWeb for COOPER. I was just "fishing" not really expecting to
find anything, just hoping to get lucky. I got to "Bertie Co Deeds
MISC. ABSTRACTS" and found a 27 Jan 1795 record of a conveyance from
Jeremiah and Mary Fleetwood to ISHAM BOYCE, witnessed by my ggg
grandfather, Blunt Cooper. I've sent to Windsor for a copy of the original.
This Isham BOYCE reference is so interesting because I now know of
connections between him and Blount Cooper in Bertie, Franklin, and Wake
Counties NC and later in Henry County, TN. Could he have been a relative?

I had been at the State Archives in Raleigh in May and thought I had gone
through all the printed abstracts for Bertie Co records there were. Yet,
here was something I hadn't seen before. Obviously, there are still some
stones to turn over. Does anyone on this list have access to any printed
abstracts of Bertie County records from 1770 - 1805 who would look at the
index for these names: Blount (or Blunt) COOPER, Mary PHILLAW, Isham BOYCE.

I have found so far, a marriage bond record for Blount Cooper and Jinnett
Phillaw, 1799; a deed, 1792 where Jinnett Phillaw and John Pierce are
witnesses; a deed for a town lot in Windsor in 1783 for Mary Phillaw; A
John Pierse will 1799 giving his estate to Jinnett Phillaw, "daughter of my
wife Mary," (previously Mary PHILLAW, I believe); listings for Blount
Cooper in the 1790 and 1800 Bertie Co Federal Census; and, the new Blunt
Cooper record I mentioned above.

I'm searching for a marriage record for this Mary PHILLAW and John PIERSE,
or Pierce but haven't found it in Bertie. They married sometime (and
somewhere) between 1783 and 1799, perhaps in an adjacent county.

I would greatly appreciate any clues or suggestions anyone might have.
