Subject: [NCBERTIE] Joseph J. Rascoe & Dr. John T. Rascoe of Bertie County 1840 - 1860
Date: Wed, 4 Sep 2002 15:42:31 EDT

Joseph J. Rascoe is listed as head of household in the 1840 census of Bertie
County. He is shown to be between the ages of 20 to 30 years. In his
household is an older Free White Female between the ages of 40 to 50.
Possibly his widowed mother.

In September of 1842, Joseph J. Rascoe was one of three executors named in
the Will of Peter Rascoe. Joseph J. Rascoe was not named as an heir to Peter.

In the 1850 census of Bertie County, Joseph J. Rascoe is listed as being 31
years of age, head of household, a farmer with real estate valued at $7000.
Birth place N.C. In his house are two other men, John A. Rhodes age 25 and
Michell Murphy age 35. Joseph J. Rascoe does not appear to be married as
there are no females or children listed in the household. This is the last
time Joseph J. Rascoe appears in the censuses of North Carolina.

Can anyone tell me who the parents of Joseph J. Rascoe were and what became
of him?

In the 1850 census of Bertie County, a John T. Rascoe is enumerated. He is
living alone. His age is reported to be 30. By occupation he is a Physician.
His real estate value is $1040. He was born in N.C.

In the 1860 census of Bertie County, John T. Rascoe was living in the
household of Joel Griygar (?) age 69, a Taylor born in Virginia with a
personal property value at only $50.
John T. Rascoe age is not shown. He is still listed as a Physician. His
personal property value is $1000 and his real estate value is $300.
In this same household is a man named W.J. Fisk, age 24, watchmaker, born in
Maryland. None of these men appears to be married as there is not females or
children in the household. This is the last time John T. Rascoe appears in
the N.C. Census. Can anyone tell me who John T. Rascoe's parents were and
what became of him?

James R. Rasco
