Hello,
I am researching my Great Grandfather William D. Smith of Chowan County. He and many members of his family parrished in an accident. The steamboat "Olive" was in the middle of a violent winter storm in the Chowan River.
The ship sank in about 35 feet of water, very quickly! If anyone has any infomation on this steamer and especially her passengers, please contact me! The names are important to me, as I do not know of any of the names passed the name of my Great Grandfather.
