Just by way of FYI on Gary's query, I refer you to several deed references
and thoughts in a February 2003 email you can find here:

As you note, I speculate this Asa may be a brother of Enos (or David), and
namesake for his son Asa. I also want to point out there, unlike
Bertie/Gates/Hertford Countis NC where there is a Harrell lurking behind every tree, the
David, Asa, Enos, Elijah, John Harrell in Craven/ Jones Co. documents abstracted
below are the only ones I found in the abstracted materials at DAR library
and the will info below for the 1700s. This suggests to me one possibility
that David with maybe parents, siblings but mainly non-Harrell in-laws or
neighbors, most likely from the Bertie/Gates/Hertford area. Gary, I think you
should scrounge up some Harrell males from our group in Gonzales for a DNA test.

Gary's message jogged my mind that I hadn't posted information from the Jones
County NC Genweb archives wills 1777-1807, with many of these characters. I
insert that now below and maybe someone will see some other references with
Whitty, Knight, Granade and Lee, a known connection of Enos, through his wife
(see my 2003 email at the end). Enos was also supposedly Guardian of a Granade
orphan (sorry am doing this on the run at the moment) Note that Kader
Knight's wife appears to be a DIAS?? Also, this website maintains that Edmund
Whitty's daughter Ann married a John Harrell.
