Al, I looked at the image you are talking about that looks
like Dane Edge. Could it also say Dave? Also where it looks
like it says Edge for the wife, I wonder if the take wrote
down Edge like they were writing the last name and made a
mistake and neglected to write Margaret which should be the
name. I really think this is David S. Edge and Margaret New
Edge, with the son I have for them of Alfred. I know one
researcher said David died after 1924. I am not sure how
they knew that though. The ages work from what I have for
birth dates for them. I have ca. 1848 for both. They HAD a
son Floyd born 1892 who was with them in the 1900 census,
but no one has found him after . I wonder if the grandson
Floyd in the census is the son of Alfred, named for a
brother who may have died, or possibly a son of Floyd who
may have died and they are raising him? I kind of doubt it
is a son of Alfred because of the age. Alfred is 35, and
Floyd is 21 in this census. Dane/Dave? is 80, and the wife
Margaret? is 80 as well. It is a bad copy of the census so
who knows? I have seen the microfilm on this one and it is
no better. My Clem Ray and wife are on the same page by the
way. Also I looked in my Bladen County Cemetery records and
there is an Alfred P. Edge buried at Suggs Grove Missionary
Baptist Church. There were no readable dates on the marker
from what it stated in the book. Also buried there is the
M.C. Edge who I think is Marshall Edge and his wife Mary Ann
Smith Edge. Remember good ole Marshall who makes me crazy!!
:-)

Al, I wonder if this is rather than Dane, David S. Edge who
had a son Alfred. I show David born ca. 1850, and son
Alfred born April 1886. That is the only Alfred I have at
all, and I do show that he married from another researcher,
but no name of the spouse or a child listed at all. Some of
the notes from the other researcher on this Alfred are as
follows. I do not know the source of the information other
than it was evidently a book. I show David dying after 1920
but no exact date is given. If it is the same Alfred he was
in the house of Jonathan New in 1920, who was his mother's
brother, the mother being Margaret New. How old is the
Alfred in the 1930 census? I have not viewed the census
image myself.

No death dates given in cemetery records.
Alfred in hh of Jonathan T. New (his mother's brother) in
1920 with his
children but not his wife.

Anyone have info on a Dane Edge born NC about 1850; in 1930
White Oak census;
also shown in household are his wife, widowed son Alfred,
and grandson Floyd.

Al Rose
