I recently found the tax lists for Burke County that Gale Payne Nagy posted
on the Paynes in Burke County between 1794 and 1814. I was wondering if
anyone could tell me the ages of the individuals on the tax lists. That
is, when they list 1 white, is this person between the ages of 16 and 55 or
what was the criteria for listing on the tax lists in North Carolina?
Also, she had listed a George Paiyn-0/6/6/0/10/6. Did anyone ever
determine what this stood for? I am still searching for any information I
can about the George Payne of Burke County. Thank you very much for your
assistance.
