Hi Arlene,
Ahh yes, the mystery of these Hamptons anyway...sheesh.
I too thought "England" forever. Have you ever visited the Hampton website that has a page titled "So you think you're related to General Wade Hampton?". It happens to be, yes I am related to Gen Hampton...there is a book that is out of print about him..."Giant and Grey". My mother has ordered it for the second time. I asked her not to cancel her order this time. My ggdad (pop) parents were Ezekial Hampton and Charlotte Love Patterson...I've gone to the LDS site and have typed these names in. I then clicked on father on each page (Hampton) until I couldn't go back any farther. I was happy because it explained much about the history of the Hamptons to me anyway. I took it back to a John Hampton b. abt. 1645 ..Elphingstoun, Co., East Lothian, Scotland...he had married four times. I don't know if this helps or not. There are many servants and slaves that have taken Hampton names also. Has anyone in your family ever mentioned "Pennsilvania Dutch" in your family? Ther!
e of course are relatives in England. However taking it one step at a time from my grandmother Joane Grace Hampton has taken me a total of five years. I do have more....too much to type on the board.
