Nancy,

The 1850 census shows a Medaris family in John's River Twp. Their
names were:
1) Rice, a male at 49 years of age. He was a Blacksmith and born in
Burke County.
2) Eliza, a female at age 43, born in Burke Co.
3) Polly, 19 born in Burke
4) William, 15 " " "
5) John, 14 " " "

All of the children could read and write.

In the 1860 census only J.E. Medaris is shown. He is still in the
John's River Twp. He was a Merchant at age 24 and his personal
value was 1000.
No deaths from 1910 to 1939 were posted named Medaris are listed in
the Caldwell death records. So I assume John moved or died before
that time.
