This is what the Carteret County Cemetery Book, published in 1983, says:

"Ameriah Garner Memorial Cemetery
Newport NC

To locate this cemetery go west from Morehead City, on Highway 70 to the
Newport stop light. Turn left and continue 1.1 miles to [the cemetery?]Ameriah
Garner (1820-1897) donated the land for the original section of the cemetery.
In later years adjactent land was purchased to enlarge it."
