My thanks to all of you who replied, either personally or to this posting, on the occupation "Turpt" maker. Since my research has not been in this part of NC until recently, it wasn't an occupation that I was familiar with. And all of you shared info that was valuable in my understanding of "what went on" and the importance of "Turpt" Makers. Thanks so much for so many replies and for getting the information back to me so quickly! How great to have so many "tree climbers" willing to share info.
