Came to Carteret County about 1785, probably when his father's left fo land to him on Nelson's Bay. In 1791, he acquired one hundred acres of land at Hunting Quarters from Adam Gaskins. Part of that descended to his granddaughter Sidney Rose Hill, wife of Harmon Hill. She conveyed it to George Willis who sold it to Derwood W Mason whose wife Cassandra Hill Mason was Sidney's granddaughter.

Carpenter. Will drafted Oct. 6, 1809, proved Dec. 1809 court. Left his 100-acre plantation to be equally divided between his three sons, Thomas (Clifford?), John, and William. Thomas inherited the house, one third of the land, and the responsibility of supporting his mother. He left his three daughters, "Nancey," "Polly," and "Salley five "dolers Each" and his wife one "cou yearling." John got 33 acres "where he now lives" and "my new pilot boat." Thomas was left his "old pilott boat" and two feather beds. John was given the feather bed "he has now got" plus another. William Jr.'s 33 acres were to go next "to his son if he Ever has one and if not to his daughter abigal." He also left his "Poincy land over the bay" to be equally divided between his sons. Thomas was left all remaining property not specifically bequeathed. Other legatees were grandsons Cornelius, to whom he left his "Close," Simmeon, and Nathaniel (the latter two children of Thomas?), who each recei!
ved a "Stock of beas,' as did each son. Three sons executors. Uriah and David Mason and Stephen Saulter witnessed the will.
