I'm sorry, I had not found this before, in the book, it was buried in
another section and after I sent the message, happened to look at in the
subject index and found "Chatham". (All the other counties involved
have a chapter, heading)
There is a short list by a special board for Chatham Co. home guard
under the leadership of Capt. Gibson and was under the designation of
"5th Reg. Home Guard - Col. Murchison.
The men exempted from Chatham were:
Clegg, J.H.C., age 31, farmer, disease of kidney, calculous; 30f
[? this must mean 30 days furlough?] light duty
Gunter, F. M. age 34, curvature of spine; 30f
Hadley, Jno. age 48; miller; Stricture or enlarged prostate
Hudson, C.D.; age 24; farmer; contractions from old burn; discharge
(meaning discharged from service)
Mann, J.N. age 40 General complaint
Mann, Jessee age 43; Sore on hip
Marand, W. T. age 37; mechanic; Loss of left eye, defective vision of
right; discharge
McIntire, Arch age 46; farmer; General complaint, weak lungs
Murchison, Martin age 18; Impediment in speech & partial deafness; light
duty.
Rosser, T.C. age 35; Injury to skull; 30f
Vestal, Calvin age 49; Hernia & disease of kidney; 30 f
Wilkie, W. B. age 30; cooper; General Infirmity
