Recent location queries - Kilgo, Rialto - and many other Chatham Co.
towns, such as: Grove, Frosty, Hackney, Lambsville, Bellevoir and
Riggsbee may be located on the Rand-McNally map which accompanied the
"1904 North Carolina Year Book and Business Directory" published every
year by the News and Observer, Raleigh". (All named towns are shown and
located between Haw River and New Hope Creek.)
Other information included: Population breakdown, real estate valuetax
rates, post offices, railroad, telegraph and express companies, court
schedules, townships, schools, teachers, ministers, physicians,
merchants, town officers, banks, dentists, doctors, grist mills, etc.
Several NC libraries have some of these serial publications on their
shelves.
Some genealogical and historical societies have reproduced local
segments for their readers. This is good project for those societies
who haven't done so.
