The 1800 census listing is males (first group) and females (second
group) under 10, 10-16, 16-26, 26-45, 45 and over. I would venture to
guess that Susanna is a widow between 26 and 45. The 1800 census is not
strictly family - anyone living in the household including guests,
boarders, etc. may be listed. The man over 45 could be father,
father-in-law, or anyone in the household the day the enumerator came by
taking the census.

>I need some help with interpreting the 1800 federal census for Chatham co part 3 record for Susannah Poe . The census for her goes like this 0-2-1-0-1 for males and 0-1-2-1-0 for females the first number for males and females represents persons 45+ the 2nd number is persons 0-10 the third is 10-16 years the fourth is16-26 the fifth is persons 26-45 - one assumes that( Susanna Poe is listed as 16-26 )Is she the head of the household since she is the person named ? why is she the head of this household ,at her age , the children listed seem to old to be hers ,could they be siblings of hers ? and there is a man 26-45 . wonder why he is not listed by name , instead of Susanna ? if I am reading it correctly why is she the named head of household one wonders if she was a widow ,who would the other man be? any ideas on these relationships is greatly appreciated . I have seen an estate record for a william Poe also for about 1800 that mentions a Susannah Poe and!
