Hello Friends and Family

My first topic is an apology to each one of you who have written to me with a request for information or other items in the past three months, which has not been answered will be looked at as soon as I can get to them. I have had to keep my feet elevated higher than my heart for about 75% of the time, so most of my correspondence is still in my inbox.

I do hope all is well with each of you and your families. I am going to physical therapy twice a week and to the doctor frequently. Hopefully, my health will start to improve and I can spend more time in correspondence and research and documentation. Gene is well and so are both daughters and their families.

The Messer Family Reunion in Waynesville on October 6 was a great success with over 75 people in attendance.

I would like to thank each of you who wrote letters to the North Carolina Society of Historians nominating me for Historian of The Year. Your efforts and my works were well received by the prestigious judges this year and I was chosen The Historian of The Year for 2007. I also won four more awards as follows:

The Robert Bruce Cooke Family History Award for The Registry, The Family of George Messer, Second Edition. This book is pretty much the same as the first edition, but with some spelling and grammar errors corrected. I am asking everyone who bought this book to contact me, so I can send you an award label for your book.

The Paul Green Multimedia Award for the following entries:

The website, The Messerville Gazette.

Two Memorial Bookmarks which I made for the families of Vonona Messer Cook and Robert Hill in memory of these two fine people.

A four-volume scrapbook project in honor of our military personnell who represented Burke County, North Carolina during Operation Desert Storm / Desert Shield, entitled, Operation We Care, Burke County, North Carolina's Contribution to Desert Storm / Desert Shield. There quite a few Burke County representives and additional military personell which these fine men and women asked me to include on our mail list. Each one were recipients of letters and packages from me on behalf of myself, my business partners, Gwen Eller Morrow and Pansy Causby, and local businesses in Burke County.

You can read about these projects and the Judge's Notes for each award on the features and sale page of The Messerville Gazette (http://www.messerville.com/messerville/features.htm and http://www.messerville.com/messerville/sale.htm). I have updated these two pages of The Messerville Gazette and will work on it as I feel like it. An email will be sent when any updates are made. I have also been working on updating the website for the North Carolina Society of Historians as time and health permits.

These projects could not have been completed without the help of many people including many of you on this list, so I am sending you my sincerest thanks for all of your help and input on our family history.
