Boyce, Forehand, Copeland, Speight, Evans, Haskett, Winslow, Chappell,
Wallace, Griffin, to start off with.....
On the Speights: A William Speight married Margaret Wallace about 1844 in
either Chowan or Perquimans County. These were my wife's earliest proven
Speight ancestors. Both were born about 1820. We want to find out who their
parents were. Their son, Wilson E. Speight, married, if I recall correctly,
a Haskett.
Wilson Speight's son, William Henry Speight, married Margaret or Martha
Priscilla Boyce, daughter of Baker Boyce Jr., who had served in D Company,
68th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, CSA out of Perquimans County, N.C.
Also interested in the family of Guelielma Griffin who married Thomas
Copeland, father of Elijah Copeland who married Catherine Winslow.
Elijah was the father of David L. Copeland born 1843 who married Keziah
Chappell. I still do not have death dates for David and Keziah. They died in
Hertford, Perquimans County, N.C. My wife is descended from their son, Hugh
Copeland, who married Lucille Ethel Evans, daughter of Charles Evans and ??
Charles died before 1896, the year Lucille married Hugh, in the home of
Henry NEWBY. Henry was Lucille's step-mother, and we STILL do NOT know the
name of her mother! They were married in Perquimans County, in Hertford.
Hopefully, some info will surface regarding the Evans family.
That, my friends, is a start. Hope you can help!
Thanks!
Will Smith
