<< When was your Henry Bond?
I am looking for the married offspring (& their spouses) of Nathaniel Bond
(1781-1855) and Penelope Barker Dickinson (1788-1865) of the Cupola House
in Edenton, and also for Nathaniel's line.
My wife's great-grandmother was Sarah Bond, whose parents I have not found,
but her mother was probably Patsy Ann and her grandparents the above
couple. (We have a copy of the brief history of the Cupola House written by
Tillie Bond in 1916, on which my wife's grandmother wrote "Given to me by
my cousin Tillie", and her grandmother told my wife that she was the fifth
Patsy Ann in a line that had gone from grandmother to granddaughter.) >>
John: My Henry Bond was b 1782 d 1817 in Edenton. He md 23 Apr 1807
Elizabeth Sarah Cotton. Their ch were Henry Alexander - Samuel Treadwell -
James Cotton. I have been unable to identify his parents although I believe
him to be the son of Henry Bond & wife Sarah. This Henry Bond d abt 1794 in
Edenton, intestate, wouldn't you know.
My files contain no records as late as your Nathaniel Bonds death. I can
offer 2 earlir wills which may help.
Bond, John (Chowan) Dec 25, 1812 - Dec Term 1812 -ch: Nathaniel B, Lydia
Bond, Rebecca Elliott, Jno. M. Bond, Edwin Bond & Harriet Bond, wife Mary,
son Lewis Bond & his heirs, dtr Elizabeth Jackson wife of James, Nathaniel &
John ch of Lewis Bond, son Nathaniel Bond Exr. Test. Jas. Iredell, John
McFarlane.
Mary Bond (Chowan) Dec 7, 1810 Dec. Term 1822 Ch of Edwin Bond, Mary dtr of
Lewis Bond, Elizabeth Mary, dtr of Nathaniel Bond, dtr Elizabeth, each of my
children, son Nathaniel Bond Exr. Test, Jas Norcom, David Small
I can confirm the mg of Nathaniel Bond & Penelope B Dickinson Oct 14, 1809
(date of bond) with James Norfleet as security.
If memory serves, John Bond was a merchant in various partnerships among them
one with Nathaniel Allen. Penelope Dicknson was the dtr of Dr. Samuel
Dickinson whose home was in Edenton.
This John & your Nathaniel are probably connected to the numerous Lewis Bonds
in Gates Co. I believe they in turn are descended from Richard Bond of
Bertie who died about 1827.
Perhaps this will give you a place to look. Dixie
