1790 Chowan Co. Census Bateman, Thomas.............02 01 02 00 00
This is the Thomas Bateman that is the father of William Montgomery Bateman.
There is also a Mary Bateman as a daughter but I have not been able to find
any information on her at this time. Thomas is supposed to have married a
Elizabeth Beasley but a marriage license has not been found. There is a lot
of mixing of the Beasleys and Batemans as is evidenced in the documentation
below. The 1790 census is showing three children and Thomas probably had at
least five. William was born 1792 and Mary could have been in 1791 or after
William because it looks as if Thomas did not die until about 1806. William
M. would have been about 14 and if seems that he would have been mentioned
in the Negro division. There is a William Bateman that applied for a pass
through the Indian Lands of Georgia in 1809 and he would have been about 17.
William does end up in Williamson Co., TN. Where he was married to Elizabeth
Pearre in 1817.

If anyone can add to this I would certainly appreciate it very much.
