I can tell you there were no Leonards in Chowan or Gates Co. 1850 Census, which was the 1st one to list family members' names. There was just one family in Pasquotank County...a mother, Margaret, 33, with a few children, but she would have not been a Leonard by birth.
Do you know who your Elizabeth married, when, where, when, where she died?
A death certificate may help. The counties didn't have to 'officially' start keeping birth/death records until 1913, but there are some scattered around earlier than that. Good luck!
