This brick wall has been up for me for over 20 years! I'm hoping
someone can help me with it.

John Jefferson Monds (aka...John, Jeff, Jefferson, JJ...) was b. @1835.
He md. 1st Rhoda Jane Smith in 1860. She died in Washington, NC, of
'war injuries'. He served on the Union side in the C. War.
In 1866, he married Rebecca Lane, daughter of Samuel Lane and Huldah
Chappell. JJ and Rebecca Monds had several children:
John O. (Owen?)
Samuel J.
Martha Arabelle..md. Matthew Palin Chappell, 1888
Delilah M.
Charles E.
Thomas Francis
Jeanette Huldah
Sarah Easter (Susan?)

With this many children, I would think a few other people would be
researching them...

In Gates County, I found some land records that tie Jefferson Monds to
Gracey King. One of his pension records (after Rhoda died) says Simon
King was 'next of kin' or whatever the term was for who was to be
notified in case of death, I think.

Also in the Chowan land records/tax lists, it tells of a Jefferson Monds
on tax list for Poll Tax in 1831, 1836. I'm wondering if there was a
Jefferson Monds before my JJ, as this was too early for JJ to be on a
Tax list. I have a feeling JJ must have been a family rebel or
something, as he is not listed in any wills or otherwise. Maybe b/c he
served with the North, while everyone else of the name served in the
South.

If anyone has any clues, I'd sure love to hear them! Thank you all.
Carolyn
