This might be a real good time to remind folks that with Christmas
coming up a good gift would be a gift donation to any library that does not
offer this service. If everyone in town gave just $1.00 (some could donate
more than $1.00---or not buy that "scratch off" one week) and designated the
donation be used for the genealogy section of their library---what a
genealogy section they would have! There is no one on any list who has a
smaller or less access than the library in our town but our librarian wrote
a grant application and got a lot of money to build up the gen. section.
This also happened to the library in Holly Springs, MS. Folks could also
give Christmas gift donations to their friends and family members to
libraries which have the HQ On-line if there is a fee to join the
library---donations are tax deductable and January 1st is looming.....
With the emphasis on "finding our roots" and increasing interest in
reading, right now would be a good time to focus on our libraries and
helping them to acquire needed materials.
One thing about the HQ On-line is that it does not have all of the
Censuses on line. I think I am going to check into the Godfrey Library and
see if I can become an "on-line" member---that looks like the best bargain
in town! :c)
