Hi, Barbara,
My Rogers family are all from Haywood County, and they don't seem to be
related to the other Rogers families in Clay County. My grandfather, Oda
Rogers, moved west from Haywood to Clay County in 1920 along with his
parents, Jason Richard Rogers and Harriet Elizabeth Clark Rogers, and
numerous other family members. I have my grandmother's precious pictures
of her childhood friends in Haywood County, and some of the folks in the
pictures have names that are also Clay County names, so there may have been
other families who relocated west, as well.
My Rogers bunch seem to have come originally from somewhere in South
Carolina. Jason Rogers' father was William A. ("Billie") Mitchell Rogers
and his mother was Charlotte ("Lottie") Guy, who may or may not have been a
Catawba Indian from South Carolina. They appeared in the Buncombe County
Census records in 1850.
My grandparents (Oda & Minnie Rogers) and Oda's parents are all buried in
Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Warne. Many of my family members still live in
Hayesville, Shooting Creek and Young Harris.
I have more detailed information - much of it gleaned from Census data -
for anyone interested in researching this Rogers line.
Thanks for writing!
Linda P.
