Thank you for the reply.

I have the George H. and Sallie F. Shoaf family in my database but my information stopped with the 1900 census information when they were in Bexar County, Texas. Since Diane Nell gave the information that William Gordon Shoaf had a sister named Grace, they look like a good prospect to be his parents.

In a 1999 posting on Shoaf Family Genealogy Forum (genforum) the marriage of G.H. Shoaf and Sallie F. Clapp on 2 June 1895 in Hood County, Texas was cited. I replied to this message with my opinion that G.H. Shoaf was the son of George Crockett Shoaf and Bettie C. Hodges.

California death records on rootsweb.com show the death of a George H. Shoaf.
Born, 17 January 1875.
Mother's maiden name, Hodges.
Father's last name, Shoaf.
Sex, M.
Birth Place, Texas.
Death Place, Orange County, California.
Residence,
Death Date, 21 July 1959.
Age, 84 years.

There was no one named Sallie Shoaf listed in the California death records so I did a search for Sallie/Sally/Sarah with a father named Clapp and I found the following. At this time I cannot state that this is the Sallie that was the wife of George Henry Shoaf. Perhaps they divorced.
Sally Frances Potter
Born, 14 February 1879.
Mother's maiden name, Swann.
Father's last name, Clapp.
Sex, F.
Birth place, Georgia.
Death place, Los Angeles County, California.
Residence,
Death date, 3 February 1955.
Age, 75 years.

An index to Texas probate birth records list show the following. These are also referred to as delayed birth certificates. My copy is print from microfilm and the quality is poor so some of the numbers may be in error.

Shoaf, Eloise, born in Hood County, Texas, 8-28-99, No. 881395.

Shoaf, William Gordon, born in Hood County, Texas, 8-6-01, No. 794100.

As to George W. Shoaf the father of George Crockett Shoaf, I will add a copy of my genforum post from 2001.

Re: G. H. Shoaf-late 1800's in East Texas
I believe that this is George Henry Shoaf, the son of George Crockett Shoaf and Bettie C. Hodges. He was born in 1875, probably in or near Luling, TX. The 1880 census lists the George Crockett Shoaf family in Luling, Caldwell Co., TX. George Crockett Shoaf was born in January 1855, probably in Caldwell Co.,TX. His parents were George Washington Shoaf and Malissa Jane Dillard. George Washington Shoaf and Malissa Jane Dillard were married 27 November 1850 in Caldwell Co.,TX. The parentage of George Washington Shoaf seems to be in doubt. According to census, he was born in North Carolina and some Shoaf family researchers believe that he is the son of John Jacob Shoaf (Jacob, Sr.)and Susannah Hinkle. Others disagree, so this question is still unanswered.
